Arthur J. Fox
Most Worshipful Grand Master, 1925-1926
Arthur J. Fox was born in Almont Township in Lapeer County on December 1, 1878. He was educated in the district school and in Almont High School. He was married on June 10, 1903 and moved from the farm to the village of Almont in 1907. He was employed in road and bridge contract work and retained his interest on his farm.
He was raised as a Master Mason in Almont Lodge No. 51 on April 6, 1903. He was elected Junior Warden in 1904, Senior Deacon in 1905 and 1906, Senior Warden in 1907, and Worshipful Master in 1908-1909 and 1910. He was elected Secretary of his lodge in 1912, and was annually elected Secretary ever since. He was Exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Almont Chapter, No. 76, R.A.M., on March 9, 1906, and was elected Secretary in 1912 and continued to serve in that position. He was greeted in Lapeer Council in 1912 and assisted in forming Almont Council, No. 84, R. & S.M., in 1920 and was elected the first Thrice Illustrious Master and continued to serve in that position. He was a member of Bay City Consistory, A. & A.S.R., 32°, and of Moslem Temple, Detroit A.A.O.N.M.S.
He was a Past Patron of Almont Chapter No. 338, O.E.S., and was a member of the Advisory Board of Wolverine Chapter, Order of DeMolay.
He was elected Grand Marshal of the Grand Lodge, F. & A.M. of the State of Michigan at its Seventy-fifth Annual Communication held in Kalamazoo, on May 28, 1919, and was steadily advanced each year until his election as Most Worshipful Grand Master in Grand Rapids, on May 27, 1925.
During his term of office, there were 140,000 Masons in Michigan.
He died on October 1, 1940.
