Most Worshipful Grand Master, 1986-1987

Ernest Hoffman, Jr. was born on October 6, 1923 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He entered the real estate business in 1953 and became a Broker in 1959. He was President of the Battle Creek Multi-List, Inc. in 1974 and in 1980; he also served as Treasurer. He was President of the Battle Creek Board of Realtors in 1976 and was elected “Realtor of the Year” that same year. He served six years on the Penfield Township Board of Review and the Penfield Planning Commission for four years. He was also the President of the Penfield Hicks Cemetery.

He married Arlene G. Taylor on August 9, 1952. They were blessed with two children.

He was raised as a Master Mason on October 27, 1959 in Ira A. Beck Lodge No. 503. He served as Worshipful Master in 1972. He was a member of the Battle Creek Chapter No. 19, R.A.M.; Zabud Council No. 9, R. & S. M.; Battle Creek Commandery No. 33, K.T.; Battle Creek Chapter No. 355, O.E.S.; Valley of Grand Rapids, A.A.S.R.; Saladin Shrine Temple and York Rite College No. 3.

He served as President of the Masters and Wardens Association of District 12, as a member of the Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes since 1973 and in 1977 he was elected President of that Body. He was also the Membership Chairman for the Valley of Grand Rapids A.& A.S.R. and has served on many Committees for other affiliated Masonic Bodies as well as Committees of the Grand Lodge, F. & A. of Michigan.

He was installed as Michigan’s Grand Master of Michigan Masons at the closing session of the Grand Lodge’s 160th Annual Communication on May 29, 1986.

He died on January 31, 2004.
